Joe, where did you grow up? I was born in Harrisburg Pennsylvania and grew up in Steelton PA which is in South Central Pennsylvania.
Where did you study for college? I received my BS at Clarion University in Clarion, PA and my MBA from Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, PA.
What was the first job you had out of college? What was the most important lesson you learned there that has stuck with you for your entire professional career? My first job out of college was as Financial Analyst with Xerox Corporation. The Customer’s experience is the key to success in my opinion.
What drew you to working with A Neumann and Associates?
I saw it as a great opportunity to use my background in business, finance, and business ownership to help other business owners through the process of buying/selling their business. I am excited about the opportunity.
What counties and states do you represent? My territory is Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland. The counties in PA include Lancaster, York, Lebanon, Dauphin, and Cumberland. In Maryland, the main counties are Baltimore City, Carrol, Cecil, Harford, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Anne Arundel, and Howard. My territory also includes Sussex County in Delaware.
What do you feel makes your region unique compared to others? (tax benefits, special laws, etc.)? The region has a unique mix of businesses, which includes a diverse range including small manufacturing and service companies farming, and large technology companies. The region also has a lot of influence of State and Local Government.
What do you find is the biggest challenge in your region compared to others? The territory is large and the distance between the counties.
What do you find is the biggest advantage working in your region compared to others? I was born and raised in this region and spent most of my career working and owning businesses in the region. I am familiar with the differences in the counties and business sectors in the region.
What do you think is the most underrated opportunity in your region? Small manufacturing, Service and Health Care.
What is the most rewarding experience you’ve had working in your region? Working with the people in the region is the most rewarding experience.
Best advice for someone considering selling a business in this region? Get a business valuation done to know the true market value of your business, work with a good M&A Company to help you through the process. Try to get several offers.
